The most popular line these days by anti-Trump conservatives and Republicans is that the DOJ is indicting former President Donald Trump to help him win the 2024 GOP nomination to make it easier for Democrats to beat Republicans in the fall. Those conservatives also claim that Trump brought his legal troubles on himself.
This stance leads to multiple questions and points.
If Trump is indicted for politics it suggests that the DOJ is out to get him, so how can one also claim he brought it upon himself? It's either or. It makes no sense to be both.
If the thinking is that it is both, namely, that Trump gave the DOJ stuff with what to work with, it leads to this point: The DOJ inserted itself in the politics of...
2012 by arresting the anti-Muslim filmmaker to fuel the Benghazi video talking point and by giving the IRS a pass on its anti-Tea Party abuses.
2016 by weaponizing what they knew all along was a Dem-funded Russia Hoax.
2020 by giving the Bidens a pass and discrediting the laptop.
It is essentially the opinion of anti-Trump Cons that this increasingly-political DOJ would suddenly be out of ideas if only Trump behaved differently or if someone else was the GOP nominee. Weird.
Third, how do those Cons plan on defeating a DOJ that they claim is so corrupt? By insulting GOP voters that they are "too stupid" to "get" what's going on here?
Fourth, the loss by Trump in a few states and the loss by some of "his" candidates in 2022 was narrower than the impact that anti-Trump Cons have on politics. If not for GOP saboteurs and self-righteous cons criticizing Trump in ways Liberals never attack Dem presidents and then sitting out elections in the name of country over party, many states would have gone differently. In other words, Dems "want" Trump to be the face of the GOP because of the expectation that GOP Saboteurs and Self Righteous Cons (the ones who claim that Dems want Trump...) will again lead to more GOP losses. Those Cons don't notice that they are the mark!
Fifth, the counter to the above is that a candidate must consolidate all fractions of a political party and movement and can’t expect automatic support. True, but...
A) if you sabotage a candidate through malice or by not noticing that your opponents placed you on a self-defeating Country Over Party ride, you can't blame the candidate for losses that you claimed pre-election are for the good of the country and principles... You got what you wanted; you got what you were willing to swallow. Own it!
B) The grift to get TV appearances, op-ed space, and social media play by being a Conservative that speaks like a Democrat will be alive no matter who the GOP nominee is. All it takes to blow up elections is for a minute fraction of the party, not even one percent, to pile onto the nominee and lead others to sit out the election. Indeed, had half of 43,000 votes combined in AZ, WI, and GA gone the other way in 2020, Trump would have won those states.
Sixth, those who claim that the DOJ is inserting itself in politics to help Trump also tend to oppose holding AG Garland in contempt and to open impeachment hearings on Biden which would seem a contradiction to the stance that the Biden/Garland DOJ is corrupt and need to be held accountable. Those Cons and GOPs oppose these actions because the same Democrat Media who fueled doubts about the 2016 elections and who pushed investigations of Trump (steps that Dems rode to repeated election wins and impeachment of Trump) are now saying that these same tactics will harm the political party that does it… So here again, Cons are the mark of Democrat propaganda, and those Cons don't even know it. Truly remarkable!
In closing, unlike Bob Dole, John McCain, and Mitt Romney who never made it to the White House, Trump won in 2016; his 2018 midterm was better than Clinton's and Obama's, and after six years being the face of the GOP (through the 2022 elections), the GOP was left with more seats in the House (222) than Clinton (211); Bush (202); Obama (188) and Reagan (177), and the current 49 seats in the GOP Senate meets Bush's after six years; beats Obama (46); Reagan & Clinton (45) so this notion that Democrats want Trump due to his weakness is absurd. It's the mark of the grift that the Dems are after, and the mark doesn't know that they are the jokers in the room.

One correction, had 1/2 those Biden votes gone to Trump, I have no doubt that there would have just been more thumb drives or boxes of ballots marked Biden appearing in the middle of the night.
'...had half of 43,000 votes combined in AZ, WI, and GA gone the other way...'
Had half those votes gone the other way, more votes would have had to have been manufactured. We were all there election night; we saw what happened.
